I've been gaming since the age of 4 and still going strong in my late 20s! I love all kinds of games, with my favourites being racing sims, RPGs/JRPGs and Shooters.
A mishmash of random ideas we've seen a million times in hundreds of different games, but done poorly. The usual hideous crafting, survival and building in a super bland open world. Ten different design languages all clashing with each other constantly on screen as if they had no idea what they wanted to accomplish in the first place with no originality whatsoever. Huge cash grab that will either disappear in a few months time or end up adding all kinds of micro transactions in a perpetual state of early access.
(Xbox S|X version, tried on Series X. The following might not apply to other platforms).
Good writing and characters, nice graphics but a lot of issues. First of all, the framerate in the apartment is all over the place most of the time surfing in the 15-20 FPS. Second, the character movement in the level themselves is horrible, constantly getting stuck and not recognizing inputs properly. It's also incredibly hard at times to select whatever you want to interact with. The menus aren't super clear either and some buttons straight up don't work, there's also a persistent new item notification that never goes away.
On top of all this, despite being really invested into the game due to the good story and writing, I was still forced to stop at chapter 3 due to a game breaking bug that does not allow to continue the game right at the end of the level. The game does not allow me to place a certain key item to proceed.
A day one patch was supposed to come out to fix all this but it's been a week and we haven't seen anything. Putting it on pause for the moment.
EDIT as of July 14th: Weeks after release still no patch or fix for the game which is pretty much broken on Xbox. I've already moved on to other games and i don't think I'll be coming back to this one even to check if it's in a working state or not. Hope their next game will go through some quality checks before release, or at the very least playable from start to finish.
How Xbox allowed this one to be released let alone allow people to purchase it is beyond me.
Really fun game, great graphics, cutscenes and easy platinum as well. I had even more fun with the first game though and i think this style of open world feels really old nowadays. I hope they'll shake things up in either the expansions or the sequel. Overall a bit over hyped like most sony exclusives but nonetheless a game clearly made with love and of high quality. Swinging spidey around never gets boring, it feels great.
I didn't think it could get any worse than sword and shield. For every step forward this franchise takes there are ten steps backwards, all the time and with every entry which is baffling considering how big it is. I bought the game used a year after release because I didn't want to directly support TPC and Gamefreak and I still feel like I've been scammed. Pokémon 100% needs a few years break from every entry -primary and secondary games, to reassess and build something better and sale worthy. It won't happen, because no matter the quality of the product the average consumer will still buy it, resulting in millions of undeserved sales that will do nothing but reinforce TPC and Nintendo's ideas of priorities where profit takes over quality. I honestly wouldn't expect anything better than S/V for years and years to come. Change takes time, and it's the one thing Gamefreak/TPC has been extremely bad at over the past decade. They just can't seem to get a hold on things and snap out of their bubble. Despite a few glimpses of things and ideas at least TRYING to head for a better direction, nothing will come of it in the end as long as these games aren't being seen as actual games by their brand owners instead of easy money printing machines.
I already knew, despite agreeing this game wasn't exactly great, that it was never as bad as people made it out to be and never deserved the overly negative hate it received. That's because i played it for six hours when it released, and despite my choice then to wait for the 60 fps patch before continuing on, i found the game actually fun and enjoyable. Perhaps lacking a great main story, sure, but making up for it in world building and side story content just the way Arkane is known for.
Unfortunately, this too was ignored as manufactured hate was in full force when the game came out, and with it being an xbox game it carried -as always- all sorts of disproportionately negative opinions and reviews, mostly from people who never even touched the game to begin with or barely made it through the first 30 minutes, and others from reviewers happy to nitpick on everything when it comes to xbox games while completely ignoring similar issues also present in other titles on competing platforms.
Redfall is a decent game. It's not even close to a masterpiece, but it's a decent game. It runs well, the gameplay loop is fun as are the skills and the combat, which is now even better and more responsive at 60. Some of the writing is meh or downright cringe at times and this is something I cannot disagree with. Some of it though is the excellent Arkane work you expect to find in their games, and when the immersive sim aspect kicks in in the open maps it really IS a lot of fun. It feels and plays like one of their games and for a project that wasn't even supposed to release they really put passion in it and it shows, if you give it a chance.
I feel a lot of people are overthinking it. If you're a fan of past Bethesda main games you know exactly what you're getting into and whether you'll like this game or not before you even touch it. To put it simply, if you liked Bethesda classic RPGs through the years you're going to like Starfield, no two ways about it.
However, If you like Bethesda classic RPGs and the space/futuristic setting and aesthetic is your jam, you're going to absolutely adore starfield.
This game is what you'd get if Mass Effect and Skyrim had a baby, pretty much. Is it perfect? FAR from it. It's a Bethesda RPG with all the good and bad that comes with it, but it has heart and passion behind it and you feel it all the way through.
I never thought a game would make me feel the same sense of wonder and discovery I felt when I played Mass effect, Oblivion, Fallout 3 and Skyrim as a teenager ever again. But here I am, at 29 years of age having that exact same experience... and I'm so loving it.
People who give this more than a 6, please hand me some of whatever you're smoking, because this is possibly one of the most overrated games of all time and I wish I could see things through your eyes. Honestly I can only see value in this one if you played the original and want to experience it again, even though I heard they changed a lot of important things around. Story is uselessly convoluted, gameplay is boring beyond belief, especially the open areas. It feels like I'm playing something from 15 years ago, the pace is absolutely horrendous. Combat is decent once it clicks just like 7R but still nothing special, just confusing and convoluted for the sake of being flashy like many other square titles. Graphically it's only decent if you select 30 fps, the 60 fps mode looks like crap most of the time on top of still suffering from stuttering in certain areas or combat encounters.
I have played this for 75 hours, dropped it and sold it after reaching Cosmo Canyon, it just wasn't ending so I ended it myself. Probably up there with AC Valhalla as far as boring open worlds go, absolutely brutal. I enjoyed 7R quite a bit, obviously they had to ruin this one by making it yet another open world full of. absolutely nothing of value. It feels so liberating to get rid of this game, and I wish I never bought it and fell into the hype train to begin with.
It starts off great, like the first 6 or so hours are really good, then it starts to fall into the usual open world tropes we've seen a million times. The story was alright but nothing to write home about. The overall setting looks really nice. Overall this was one of the most beautifully looking boring games I've ever played.
The slow and grindy progression system makes me feel like I'm playing a very expensive mobile game and the overall layouts and UX of the game feels a generation old, and that's being generous. The AI, if we can call it that, is the same old zombie like AI from previous games. The offline portion of the game relies on the usual challenges and tests for its difficulty, but forget any kind of fun or engaging racing against the computer. It's always going to be you, starting from the back of the grid -yes, even the newest GT7 is so behind with its tech, it cannot even handle proper races and start- and flying through the field.
The graphics on PS5 -coming from GT Sport on the PS4 PRO and Forza Horizon 5 on Series X- didn't wow me at all. They feel flat, old-ish and with almost no instantly noticeable upgrades from Sport. It's only when you pay close attention to some of the car models and interiors that you notice some changes for the better, but nothing noticeable outright.
The handling on the other hand is the game's biggest improvement from GT Sport, where cars all felt samey and were pretty much always stuck to the road. GT 7 feels good to drive, both on the dualsense and a wheel. You can be fast and precise on both, which comes handy in the Sport mode which is where you'll be doing the majority of your races anyway.
Glad I got to finally play this game, it was great fun from beginning to end. It's funny because I owned the original one for ages and for multiple platforms but could never get past a certain point as a kid, so technically this was the first time I completed re4. This means there were only certain instances where I was able to compare this one to the original, mostly the game's first half, so I'm not sure if they changed some parts big time or it's 100% faithful to the original. I'm pretty sure I remember a couple things from the original game that weren't in this one though. But all in all everything felt great while playing and I had a lot of fun.
